Ōkere Zip + Geothermal Walk

Start your adventure with Rotorua Ziplines, a unique experience created in partnership with local iwi Ngāti Pikiao to showcase the mauri (spirit) and cultural significance of the Ōkere Awa (Kaituna River).

Soar above three stunning waterfalls across four exciting ziplines, cross a swing bridge and wander through beautiful native forest. Along the way, your local guides will share stories of Māori history, introduce you to traditional Māori tea and show you how we're helping restore this special part of Rotorua through native tree planting.

After your zipline adventure, take a short drive to Hell's Gate, home to one of New Zealand's most fascinating geothermal landscapes.

Take a self-guided journey through this extraordinary geothermal reserve, where steaming waters, bubbling mud, land coral and an active mud volcano reveal the powerful forces beneath Rotorua's surface. Witness the spectacular hot waterfall and discover the fascinating Māori legends and myths that have shaped this special place.

You'll also have the opportunity to get hands-on with a traditional Māori carving experience, connecting with the culture and history of the region.

• Rotorua Ziplines operates daily, rain or shine, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day (25 December and 1 January). 

• Zipline experience: Approximately 2–2.5 hours, featuring four ziplines, a swing bridge and scenic forest boardwalks.

• Hell's Gate experience: A self-guided geothermal walk taking approximately 1–1.5 hours, including the opportunity to experience Māori carving.

• Transport: Guests will need to make their own way between Rotorua Ziplines and Hell's Gate, approximately a 10-minute drive. If you don't have your own transport, contact us directly and we may be able to help.

• What to bring: Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, covered footwear and a water bottle. 

• Minimum age: 5 years for ziplining.

• Adult age: 13 years and over.

• Maximum weight: 130kg for ziplining.

• The Hell's Gate geothermal walk involves walking through an active geothermal environment with uneven ground and naturally heated features.

• Unfortunately, we are unable to take guests ziplining who are pregnant or who have certain medical conditions. Please contact us before booking if you have concerns about your ability to participate.
